The Soumak collection displayed on this site is the result of years of extensive research, design application and technological advances in the development of a broad series of antique replica rugs.
In recognition of its unusual worn-look carpet method of manufacture, the process has been awarded a U.S. Patent (#5,343,600) to acknowledge and protect its unique character and authenticity.
The Soumak Collection is a designer grouping of historically inspired designs. At present, 35 individual representations are included in the collection. The rugs are made of high-quality, long-wearing wool. Emphasizing the worn look of a precious antique, with the strength and durability that only this unique process can deliver, these are sophisticated rugs unusual in design and appearance, yet economical to purchase and own.
Stark® Carpet's exclusive jury of design professionals has searched the archives, attics and historical sites in the cities of ancient Persia for inspiration. Historic vegetable and chrome dye formulas have been refined to create subtle colors, with ever changing hues and an interplay of light and shadow. For those who wish to pay homage to the past, yet live with a durable and singular decorative piece, the Soumak Collection extends the boundaries of taste and style to a previously unattainable dimension.
Seen above. Serapi 21933A Navy. This mid 19th century Persian collection of symbols adds a touch of mystery to the rug. Clever color combinations give an overall impression of formal elegance. Sometimes patterned after stained glass windows, a Serapi graces the altar at the University of Cambridge in England.
