In 1922, the Fortunoff family started their business under the "El" in Brooklyn, New York. Fortunoff's New York Store on Fifth Avenue at 54th St., opened in 1979, is exclusively devoted to fine jewelry, antique and estate silver and jewelry, and fine giftware. The building, originally designed in 1912 by the American architects McKim, Mead & White, now boasts some of the most impressive pieces of antique and estate silver in the world. Specializing in fine 19th and 20th century American, English, Coin and Chinese silver, Fortunoff showcases the work of internationally known firms such as Tiffany, Gorham and Reed & Barton, along with that of notable makers such as Whiting, Howard Co., Towle, Wallace, Kirk, Dominick & Haff, Durgin, Redlich, and others. The collection at Fortunoff, located on the third and fourth floors, features more than 1,000 extraordinary tea sets, tureens, centerpieces, candlesticks, vases, pitchers, flatware and more.
